Cheonha Bossam
The office crowd's bossam (boiled pork wraps) lunch: tender pork, sharp kimchi, a generous spread.
Mungchi Bawi
The office lunch everyone here orders; slammed from 11:30 to 1, and easy the moment that passes.
Miryang Son Mandu
Hand-made dumplings and gentle noodle soups, the kind of lunch that sits easy on the stomach.
Milgwa Bori
A humble local table: barley or gondeure (herb) rice, seasoned namul, and bibimbap.
Anam
Busan's pork soup rebuilt as something herbal and bright; the Bib Gourmand brought the line with it.
Yuldong Kalguksu
Chicken or perilla-oil kalguksu (soy-milk noodles in summer), none of it spicy: noodles that never lose a foreign friend.
Kkangttong Mandu
One of Seoul's best North-Korean mandu houses: dumplings in a clean broth, and a fierce queue to match.
Italyjae
A long-loved Italian kitchen in a hanok; the uni-and-bottarga pasta is the one everyone comes for.
Home Korean Cuisine
Korean-leaning fusion in a calm hanok, gently seasoned and ingredient-forward. Bring guests.
Kkotnuri Deulbap, Gyeongbokgung
My go-to for showing friends a real Korean meal: rice, soup, banchan, a main, grandmothers everywhere.
Hwangsaengga Kalguksu
A Michelin Bib Gourmand for kalguksu in deep beef broth, with hand-folded dumplings. Nobody leaves unhappy.
Eunseol Seolleongtang
Clean beef seolleongtang and yukgaejang, simmered without shortcuts. An easy Korean lunch for anyone.
Motungine
The textbook Korean bunsik shop — no MSG, so it sits easy on the stomach.
illwall katsu
The tonkatsu people queue for — bar seating, and it's meat-forward and juicy more than shatter-crisp.
Samcheongdong Sujebi
Michelin-listed and genuinely good. But it's a long climb north, and I'd rather eat my noodles closer in.
Seochon · 25 · my walk
Tosokchon Samgyetang
The samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) everyone means; a warren of hanok rooms.
Onjium
Royal-court cooking as living research — a 2026 Michelin star, and one of my first picks among them.

Buam · 5
Gyeyeolsa
Oh, the chicken here is good; once a famous Seoul top-three, and still that old-timer feel.
Jaha Son Mandu
The mandu-guk I'd bring anyone to. Michelin Bib, chefs name it constantly.

Gwanghwamun · City Hall · 16 · my walk
Jojo Kalguksu
The clam kalguksu I keep going back to; the pajeon and kimchi are just as good.
Jinju Hoegwan
I line up in the summer heat for this kongguksu, and plenty of people rank it Seoul's top three.
Manjok Ohyang Jokbal
Order the five-spice jokbal without a second thought. Michelin listed it nine years straight.

Jongno · 29
Imun Seolnongtang
Seoul's restaurant license No. 1: seolleongtang (ox-bone soup) since 1904, bones simmered the better part of a day.
Balwoo Gongyang
The Jogye Order's own temple cuisine as fine dining, once Michelin-starred; fully vegan, no garlic or green onion.
Kkot, Bap Pida
An organic-farm Korean table with a full vegan course, and years of Michelin Bib and Green Star behind it.
Gaeseong Mandu Koong
Kaesong mandu, three generations of one family; touristy from a long Michelin Bib run, and worth it anyway.
Eulji Myeonok
A Pyongyang mul-naengmyeon institution, rehoused in Nakwon-dong — same old broth, and the queue finally fits indoors.
Oncheonjip Ikseon
Haven't been, but it's a hot-spring-themed hanok shabu house, with two little white bears that melt into the broth.

Euljiro · 27 · my walk
Woo Lae Oak
For a first Pyongyang naengmyeon in Korea, this is the 1946 house I'd pick — expect company in summer.
Ojangdong Heungnamjip
The 1953 house that started Ojangdong's Hamhung naengmyeon strip; the raw-fish (hoe) bowl is the order.
Pildong Myeonok
The Uijeongbu line's eldest-daughter house since 1985, a Michelin Bib every year: chili dust on clear broth.
Hwangpyeongjip Dakgomtang
My most-visited door in Euljiro: dakgomtang (chicken soup) going decades, spicy-sour chicken muchim after dark.

Dongdaemun · 3
Pyeongyang Myeonok
A Michelin-listed Pyongyang-naengmyeon institution; clean and mild, and it stays with you after.
Jinokhwa Halmae Dakhanmari
Mostly tourists these days, honestly — but for dakhanmari, no one does it better.

Cheongnyangni · 7
Andongjip Son Kalguksi
Hand-cut kalguksu from a Culinary Class Wars chef, but I'd honestly just go to the home-style spots nearby.

Majang · Dapsimni · 7
Born & Bred
It's Michelin-listed, and the whole building is hanwoo with a different concept on each floor.

Seoul Forest · Seongsu · 56 · my walk
Seongsu Jokbal
One of Seoul's big-three jokbal houses; decades in, sweet-salty with that springy jelly chew.
Nanpo
A well-loved retro fusion-Korean spot on the strip; for this meal I'd rather send you a short walk over.

Sindang · 9
Gosari Express
A vegan place with a Michelin green star; the gosari (fernbrake) dishes it's named for all deliver.

Hannam · 15 · my walk
Parc, Hannam
My go-to Korean table in Hannam: clean, healthy cooking that every foreign friend I bring loves.
Bada Sikdang
A Hannam institution for Johnson-tang, the cheesy cabbage-heavy army stew left from the US base days.
Solsot, Hannam
Sotbap done well, and on every visitor's list; the style leans Japanese, so I'd point you to Parc instead.
Downtowner, Hannam
The burger everyone posted a few years back. I'd rather eat in Haebangchon.

Itaewon · Haebangchon · 16 · my walk
Myeongdong Kyoja
The Itaewon outpost of Myeongdong's famous kalguksu house, where locals skip the crowds.
Plant, Itaewon
Haven't been, but it's the vegan spot travelers hit first in Itaewon, plant-based since 2013.
Vatos Urban Tacos
The Korean-Mexican taco spot everyone knows. I'd rather get my tacos up in Haebangchon.

Obok Hamheung Naengmyeon
My regular for chewy bibim-naengmyeon, sweet and spicy, with a kettle of warm broth on the side.

Gongdeok · Daeheung · 12
Eulmildae
One of Korea's definitive Pyongyang naengmyeon houses — the summer wait tests you, but it's forgiven at the first bite.

Yeonhui · 9
Yeonhui Gimbap
Fat gimbap among Seoul's best; seafood rolls for skipping meat, and the spicy squid's the standout.
+ 8 more in the guide
Yeonnam · 8
Gamnamujip Gisa Sikdang
A 24-hour taxi-drivers' diner, once on TV's Infinite Challenge; these days everyone eats here, not just drivers.
Plant, Yeonnam
Haven't been to this branch, but it's Plant, Seoul's best-known vegan cafe.

Hongdae · Seogyo · 28 · my walk
Okdongsik
Pork gomtang clear as consommé, from one breed of pig. Ten seats, a hundred bowls a day, then done.
Sinmigyeong Hongdae Dakgalbi
The Hongdae dak-galbi griddle I'd pick over the famous one; same great group meal, better plate.
+ 26 more in the guide
Mangwon · 13
Sundae Ilbeonji, Mangwon
Forty years of sundae-guk, and the daechang bowl has a chew nothing else does.
+ 12 more in the guide
Banpo · 3
Hanshin Chicken Hof
The local chicken hof by Banpo Hangang: the whole fried chicken's great, plus clam sujebi (hand-torn noodle soup).
+ 2 more in the guide
Sinsa · 10 · my walk
LÉGUME
Asia's first vegan Michelin star; for vegetarians, a must.
Yeongdong Seolleongtang
The seolleongtang (ox-bone soup) that stays open all night, and anyone who lives or works in Gangnam knows it.

Apgujeong · Cheongdam · 17
Mingles
Korea's three-star: traditional Korean cooking crossed with whatever technique serves it.
Kwonsooksoo
Still haven't made it in. A two-star Korean table on the fourth floor, and yes, there's a dress code.
Dosan Bunsik
Trendy bunsik (Korean snack food) by Dosan Park; the block's just too stacked to spend a meal here.

What to order and how to get in — the queue windows, which booking apps work without a Korean number — is in the guide.
Bukchon is free, in full, so you can see whether you trust me before paying.
