two white-sand beaches, then a crater rim at sundown
The west's beach town, and the water is the reason: Hyeopjae and Geumneung, clear green shallows with Biyangdo just offshore. I'd walk Geumneung, one cove on and quieter, then climb Geum Oreum, just inland, for the last of the light.
No photos, no star ratings — just what I'd tell a friend. These are the places on my own map, 54 of them here: 38 I've been to, 16 I haven't made it to yet.

Things to do
Geum Oreum
Probably the oreum (volcanic cone) I've climbed most: the whole west side spread below, best on a clear day.
Hallim Park
An old but lovely garden park near Hyeopjae: lava caves, a folk village, an aviary. A Korean classic, still loved.
Geumneung Beach
To me, the best beach on the island; I walk its shore path up to Hyeopjae all the time.
Hyeopjae Beach
Emerald shallows and white sand with Biyangdo island just beyond.

What to order and how to get in — the queue windows, which booking apps work without a Korean number — is in the guide.
