Haeundae
Jay · lives in Korea · How I choose places
where a first trip to Busan usually stays, and it earns it
The long beach, the old market just behind it, and the Dalmaji hill at the east end, with a serious gallery and the old seaside rail line to Cheongsapo. The beach is the easy part; eat a few blocks back from it, and early.
No photos, no star ratings — just what I'd tell a friend. These are the places on my own map, 105 of them here: 13 I've been to, 92 I haven't made it to yet.

Restaurants
Buda Myeonok
Pyongyang naengmyeon in Busan sounds odd, but this Michelin-listed house is the real thing: a clean hanwoo broth.
Haemok, Haeundae
Of Busan's Japanese eel-rice houses, Haemok made it biggest; the kaisendon means everyone at the table has something.

Korean barbecue
Haeundae Amso Galbi
Busan's beef-rib house since 1964: hugely famous, and honestly worth it. The building's new now; the old one had charm.

Things to do
Haeundae Blueline Park
Sky capsules and a slow beach train on the old cliff railway; plenty of locals ride it too.
Club D Oasis
Spa and waterpark together; with kids, that's the afternoon taken care of.
Haeundae Beach
Late at night, once the crowds drain away, this long sweep of sand is the best walk in Haeundae.
Dongbaek Island
A short, flat path around the island at the water's edge, under old pines.
SEA LIFE Busan Aquarium
When everyone needs a roof for an hour, the aquarium is right on the beachfront: sharks, turtles, jellyfish.
